The Troy Trojans won their home game against Noxon’s Red Devils 56-36 on Thursday, Dec. 17.

The Trojans had a rocky start in the game, ending their first quarter with a score of 11-15, but scored a narrow lead of 25-24 by the end of the first half, by scoring 14 points to Noxon’s nine in the second quarter.

“We did not do a good job in the first half locating shooters and struggled hitting shots,” said Troy Boys’ Basketball coach Jerry Mee.

Despite their performance in the first half, the Trojans picked up the slack in the second half, scoring more than double the Red Devils’ score in the third and more than triple in the fourth.

Troy scored 15 to Noxon’s 7 in the third and 16 to their 5 in the fourth, ending the game with a 20-point lead. Mee praised his team’s improvement and attributed the win to improved technique in the second half.

“The second half, we played better defense,” said Mee. “Sean [Opland] held their leading scorer, who had 12 points in the first half to zero in the second. In the second half, we did a better job rebounding and creating turnovers, which enabled us to get out on the break.”

Mee said Opland scored 19 points in the game, putting him in the lead for scores along with Kolton Winebark, who contributed 13 points to Troy’s win.
