Lady Trojans edge Stillwater Christian, 57-48
The Lady Trojans won their home opener game 57-48 against Stillwater Christian on Thursday.
After the game, Troy girls’ basketball coach Justin Young expressed delight at his team’s performance.
“Though we struggled in some facets of the game, overall I was very pleased with how the girls played,” said Young. “You could definitely tell the girls were nervous, and it took them a while for them to get in the flow of the game.”
The team’s practice and anticipation helped the Lady Trojans to take a lead against Stillwater Christian. The Lady Trojans dominated the game until the final quarter of the game, when Stillwater caught up and tied up the score at 44-44
“The girls have been working their tails off at practice, and I think they got a little lost in the excitement and anticipation of the first game.”
The Lady Trojans scored a decisive victory over Stillwater after the game went into overtime.
“This was truly a team effort,” said Young. “Every girl in the rotation made significant contributions to the win. Though we wish it didn’t go to overtime, it was the best possible scenario for us.”
Young said it was important for his team to know they won the game as a team, and on their own merits.
“It was huge for the girls to know they can win these close games. It will only make us more confident and prepared down the road. More importantly, though, we played the whole game as a team. The girls were unselfish and encouraging to one another. If we can do that every game, win or lose, we are going to have an amazing year.”
The Lady Trojans will face Noxon’s Lady Red Devils on Thursday, Dec. 17 at 5 p.m.
