David McMillan

59, of Libby

David Lee McMillan, 59, of Libby passed away at Kalispell Regional Medical Center on Dec. 3, 2015, with his family at his side.

David was born in Whitefish, on Sept. 24, 1956, to Roy and Bonnie McMillan. He was the youngest of nine children growing up in Libby, where he attended public school. He then joined the Army in April of 1974, spending time overseas and was honorably discharged after serving two years. On April 20, 1977, David married the love of his life Roberta Lundin. He worked as a logger in Libby before heading to the oil fields in east side Montana with his wife and their three beautiful daughters. A few years later they packed up and moved back home where they settled down to raise their family. David again took up logging as a skidder operator and a sawyer. He worked for several companies including Cecil Bache, Munro Brothers, LaBelle Logging, P & S Contracting, Johnson Brothers and their father, as well as many more.

David was the most complicated yet simplest man you ever met, he was set in his ways and didn’t pretend otherwise. With his own MacGyver way of fixing things, he always worked hard for what he had and was a very proud man. David was a man of his word and had a unique appreciation for the simple things in life. He truly loved his family with all of his heart. This was evident by the way his eyes lit up while talking about them. As a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather to eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, David taught his family that the little things in life are what matter the most, and to enjoy them while you can. Whether it was playing checkers, fishing, camping, or even watching movies; David made sure to spend quality time with his pride and joy, his grand-babies. He carried a special bond with each and every one of them that was different in its own way. He was a great story-teller with many tales to tell, some even lasting for days. David’s passion was the outdoors as he was a true mountain man. He enjoyed taking his horses out into the country and spending countless nights camping under the stars. Not many saw his softer side, but those who did knew how dependable and caring David was, and you can bet he was always up for a cold beer and jawing with friends and family.

David was preceded in death by his wife Roberta McMillan (Robin); father Roy Max McMillan; mother Bonnie Lorene McMillan; bothers Howard LeRoy McMillan, James William McMillan, Robert Thomas McMillan and Lynn Alan McMillan; sisters Mary Edith Curtis and Helen Marie Zak. David will be deeply missed by all who had the opportunity to experience the light he brought into this world. This does not mean good-bye but merely I love you and will see you later, and to that we all know his response...”ditto.”

He is survived by his daughters Misty Wilson (Chris) of Porter, Texas, Amber Lundin of Libby, Jamie Rosling (Sam) of Libby; sisters Peggy Sue Strand (Dave) of Libby, Judith Ilene Shelmerdine of Libby; grandchildren Sierra James, Brittany Martinez (Jonathan), Skyler Beale, Brooklyn Rosling, Bailie Rosling, Dillon Hawkins-Lundin, David Hawkins and Sam Rosling Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Lilliana Pasko and Jesse Martinez, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home on Saturday, Dec. 12, at 1 p.m. A reception will follow at the VFW. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.schnackenbergfh.com.
