Library events for September announced
The Lincoln County Public Library in Libby will be presenting a full calendar of programs during the month of September. All events are free and open to the public.
The Libby library will host story time for preschool age children every Tuesday at 10 a.m.
The Troy library will host story time for preschool age children every Friday at 11:15 a.m.
The Eureka library will host story time for preschool age children every Thursday at 11:30 a.m.
The Troy library will host chess games every Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. All ages and experience levels welcome. Bring yourself, a partner, and your favorite board. We also have boards available as well as a player/teacher/mentor and challenger. For more information please call Kimberly at 295-4040.
Sept. 1, 10 a.m.: preschool story time: join us at the Libby library for apple activities and stories.
Sept. 2, 4 p.m.: afterschool program ages 5-12. Join us at the Libby library as we celebrate Huckleberry Day. We’ll enjoy a huckleberry treat while we learn all about huckleberries.
Sept. 4, 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.: The Libby Friends of the Library are having a book sale. The entrance is on Main Street across from the post office. Stop by and check out the books, movies, and music CDs. It’s a great way to support your library.
Sept. 5: All libraries will be closed in observance of the Labor Day holiday.
Sept. 8, 10 a.m.: preschool story time: join us at the Libby library for Teddy Bear Day. Bears are loveable – most of the time! A discovery activity on everything from teddy bears to the bears that live in our mountains. Activity: make your own teddy bear figure for take-home.
Sept. 9, 4 p.m.: afterschool program, ages five to 12: Join us at the Libby library for “Lookout” for Fall Day/Looking for fall, so soon? Why not! The seasons change gradually and begin to show signs that we can discover, if we just know where to look. Join us for a scavenger hunt for clues left by plants, the sun and wildlife that fall is on its way! Prizes for the best scavengers.
Sept. 15, 10 a.m.: preschool story time: join us at the Libby library for Make a Hat Day. A Cat in the Hat, Mad Hatters, hats for garden parties, stocking hats – all types of hats make life fun for all seasons and all reasons. Activity: make a fun hat to go!
Sept. 16, 4 p.m.: afterschool program, ages five to 12: It’s collect rocks day at the Libby library. Got rocks in your socks? Rocks in your path as you go to school? Where do they come from? We’ll search for more rocks around the library and play a matching game to find out each rock’s origin. Yes, you may keep the pretty ones!
Sept. 18, 4 p.m.: Please join us at the Libby library to celebrate the retirement of librarian Lynn Zimmerman.
Sept. 22, 10 a.m.: preschool story time: join us at the Libby library for Elephant Appreciation Day. Dumbo is our favorite; how about you? Discover the elephant family members and make your own Dumbo to take with you.
Sept. 23, 4 p.m.: afterschool program, ages five to 12: Celebrate the first day of autumn at the Libby library. Autumn’s arrival signals changes. Can you find the changes from A to Z? A library mystery hunt will have you searching for clues to the puzzle of the earth’s turn around the sun.
Sept. 25, Amnesty Day: the last Friday of every month is Amnesty Day at the Lincoln County Libraries. Any materials less than 90 days overdue which are returned in good condition to any of the three libraries on that day will have all penalties waived. Overdue interlibrary loan materials are not included.
Sept. 26, 11 a.m., Book Discussion: Join us at the Libby Library for a Hot Drink and a Good Book, our monthly book discussion. This month features The 19th Wife by David Ebershoff, in which the story of Ann Eliza Young’s crusade against polygamy intertwines with a tale of murder involving a polygamist family in present-day Utah. Copies of the book are available for checkout at the library.
Sept. 29, 10 a.m.: preschool story time: join us at the Libby library for a birthday party. It’s Telly Monster’s birthday and we’re celebrating with a special cupcake affair and Sesame Street read-along all about the Telly Monster. Activity: construct a paper and sparkly birthday cake for the Telly Monster.
Sept. 30, 4 p.m.: afterschool program, ages five to 12: Indian Summer Arts and Crafts at the Libby library. Join us to learn how to make to twine, mud pots, and write in “petroglyph.” Create a story for your friends to interpret. Best one wins a prize!
