CPMC promotes John Thornton, RN
John P. Thornton, RN, MSN, has recently taken over as manager of the Cabinet Peaks Medical Center Emergency Services Department. John has been a member of the Cabinet Peaks team for two years, and has been a registered nurse for more than 16 years. He has a Master’s Degree of Science in Nursing with an emphasis in Nursing Administration from Loma Linda University and is also a Certified Public Health Nurse.
Prior to beginning his career at Cabinet Peaks Medical Center, John worked at Loma Linda University Medical Center in Loma Linda, Calif. During his tenure there, John worked on several units in the hospital and most recently served as the clinical educator.
John is excited to bring a new energy to this position. “Foremost, I believe it is important to have fun at work; this includes bringing our patients in on the fun,” stated John.
“Emergency services can be a stressful job and obviously, the patients are in a stressful situation or they wouldn’t be in need of our services; when it is appropriate, humor can relieve some of that stress and lighten the situation.”
He also has big plans for his department. “I plan to grow on the quality care that my department offers, but there is usually always something we can improve on. I plan on looking for these improvement opportunities to develop what the Emergency Services Department offers to our community. I am grateful every day that I get to live in such a beautiful place, and I am grateful for the opportunity to serve my peers and community as the Emergency Services Manager.”
John and his wife, Sheila have two daughters, Hannah and Rachel, a dog name Kona, and a cat named Coconut.
