Troy splits games in Thompson Falls
The Troy Lady Trojans and Thompson Falls Lady Bluehawks were equally matched as they split two games in a Western B-C doubleheader Thursday in Thompson Falls.
Both teams went scoreless through the first two innings of play until Lady Trojan Aurora Becquart smashed a double into right field to get into scoring position for Troy. Brenna Garrison had the next at bat for Troy and did her job by hitting an RBI single, causing the Lady Trojans to strike first. However, Thompson Falls fought back and earned two runs for themselves to take a 2-1 advantage over the visiting Lady Trojans at the end of three innings.
Troy answered Thompson Falls by scoring a run of their own in the fourth inning to knot things up at two. Cheyenne Jordan brought in Kylie Carr for the tying run.
Both teams went scoreless in the fifth inning, but Thompson Falls busted things open in the sixth, scoring three runs the Lady Trojans couldn’t match, losing the first game 2-5. Troy had a chance to stay in the game when Kaitlyn Downey doubled with two outs but Troy just couldn’t get it done at the plate.
In the second game, Rebecca Rotolo was the leadoff batter for the Lady Trojans and hit a single. She eventually made the trip all the way around the bases to score off an error to put the first run of the game on the board for the Troy. The Lady Trojans brought three runners home to take a 3-0 lead at the close of the first inning.
Grace Dolan scored the only run for Troy in the second inning as Troy took a 4-0 lead. Troy had another strong three-run inning and it all got started by Kylie Carr when she tripled and brought Cheyenne Jordan home to give Troy a commanding seven-run lead at the end of three innings.
Thompson Falls fought back in the fourth, scoring three runs that Troy couldn’t match. Neither team got any runs in the fifth inning. Thompson Falls stormed back and got the bats going in the top of the sixth inning, scoring three runs and cutting Troy’s lead to 7-6. A Bluehawk comeback looked imminent but Riley Maggi and Kylie Carr made sure that didn’t happen when they each knocked in an RBI that gave Troy a 9-6 lead. That is where the score stayed as the Lady Trojans avenged their previous loss to the Lady Bluehawks.
