Troy’s Sean Opland continued his impressive track performance at the non-scoring Flathead Time Trials Tuesday. Opland placed fifth or better in four different events.

Opland placed fifth in the 100, finishing in 11.65 seconds, just .14 second behind the winner, Eureka’s Christian Langston.

He also placed fifth in the high jump, reaching 5-11 in the event. Bigfork’s Josh Sandry took home the title, jumping 6-3.

Opland jumped 40-5 in the triple jump, placing second. Teammate Pate Scott finished fifth in the event at 39-4. Flathead’s Keaton Krantz, with a jump of 40’11”, won the event.

Opland’s best finish was a victory in the 400, with a final time of 50.93 seconds.

Pate Scott, in addition to his fifth in the triple jump, finished second in the long jump with a leap of 20-8. 1/4. The winner, Glacier’s Austin Cook, edged out Scott by a mere quarter of an inch.

Opland said he is working on a few events, testing the waters to see what works for him.

“I’m working around,” he said. “I know what my set things are going to be. I’m messing around with a few other things just to see.”

The Flathead Time Trials is a non-qualifying event, so marks don’t count for state qualifying.

With just two qualifying meets under his belt this season, Opland has already qualified for state in five events.
