Loggers blowout Browning, 48-12

The Libby Loggers (2-3) football team defeated Browning on the road Saturday, 48-12. Official statistics for the game are unavailable due to technical issues with recording equipment; however, Libby Coach Neil Fuller said the game was the best his team has played all year.

“We were efficient on both ends of the ball,” Fuller said. “Browning typically has some real good athletes, and if you get down to them early it can be hard to win.”

For the first time since opening the season with a home win against Bonners Ferry, Idaho, the Loggers balanced their rushing attack with completed play-action passes.

“The offensive line did a great job all game,” Fuller said. “They opened some nice holes in the running game and did a great job giving (quarterback) Dom Voorhies time in the pocket to throw.”

As the season carries along, it is clear that an offensive line of five upperclassmen is the Loggers’ strongest unit. Junior left tackle Kody Bailey, at 190 pounds, is the only starting lineman weighing less than 200 pounds. Behind those five rear ends, Crace is compiling one of the most impressive rushing seasons in the state.

The starting Loggers defense allowed its sole touchdown on the last play of the first half. Browning’s second touchdown, which came late in the fourth quarter, was scored against a defense of substitutes.

Cooper Brown, Libby’s starting center who also moonlights as their toe-bashing kicker, converted his first field goal of the season.

“It was a fun game and we hope to build on it as we get ready to host our first league game against Frenchtown,” Fuller said, adding that Browning drubbed conference foe Polson earlier this year.

The Loggers host their homecoming game against the Broncs at 7 p.m. Friday. The tailgate party begins in the stadium parking lot at 5:30 p.m.
