Sheriff’s Office to add reserve deputies

Lincoln County Sheriff Roby Bowe has authorized the appointment of additional reserve deputies in the Libby, Troy and Eureka areas.  Go to https://doj.mt.gov/post, click on “forms and other documents” and complete the Standard Application for Position of Public Safety Officer in the State of Montana.

Applicants selected, following the interview process, will participate in a reserve academy before being sworn in as Reserve Deputies by the Sheriff.

Contact Deputy John Davis at (406) 293-4112 x 237 for questions concerning the selection and training process. Submit applications to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, 512 California Ave, Libby, MT 59923.  Applications will be accepted until Friday, Nov. 28, 2014, at 5 p.m.

Candidates to hold

meet and greet

Every candidate seeking elected office in Lincoln County has been invited to attend a meet and greet 5:30 p.m.-7 p.m. Saturday at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds in Eureka.

Attendees are invited to ask the candidates questions. Free pig and chicken roast will be available to everyone pursuing an informed ballot on Nov. 4.

Augustine named

Citizen of Month

Jasmine Augustine received the Rotary Citizen of the Month Award from Eileen Carney at a recent meeting of the Rotary Club of Kootenai Valley.

Jasmine is an active volunteer in Friends of the Library, the Heritage Museum and Kootenai Pets For Life. She serves as secretary at the library, helps out the staff and works at the weekly book sales. She is a board member of the museum, works in the archives, organizes the volunteers at the front desk and helps out with other activities. She helps Kootenai Pets For Life keep the shelter clean for the animals.

Rotary began this award to spotlight the people of the area that make Lincoln County such a great place to live.

National Hoop Shoot

to be held Oct. 10

The National Elks Hoop Shoot is a free throw contest for boys and girls ages 8-13. This year’s program will be held at the Libby Elementary School gym at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10. All participants will receive a free game pass to the Logger home football game later in the evening. The program is free to all contestants.  Winners advance through local lodge, district, state and regional contests to reach the National Finals in Springfield, Mass.

The age groups are broken down into three divisions (based on age of contestant on April 1, 2015): Boys/Girls ages 8-9, Boys/Girls ages 10-11, Boys/Girls ages 12-13. The top boy and girl with the most free throws in each division will advance to the district competition, usually held in early December. The Libby Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its October Luncheon at Mike & Gabe’s. The meeting will provide an opportunity to introduce new member Dave Harmon from Healthy Community Initiative. Those planning to attend should RSVP at 293-4167.
