Healthcare forum

to be held Oct. 7

After taking the summer off, the Lincoln County Community Prosperity Forums reconvene on Tuesday, Oct. 7 with a focus on local health care. These forums, which began last fall, are presented by a consortium of individuals, organizations and agencies working to bring economic well-being to Lincoln County. The first forum of the 2014-15 series begins 6:30 p.m. in the Cabinet Peaks Medical Center cafeteria.

The healthcare forum will explore the role a strong healthcare system plays in building a healthy and vibrant economy, as well as explore the current state of various organizations providing healthcare in Lincoln County.

Following presentations by the panelists, there will be time for questions, answers and discussion with the audience.

The Prosperity Forums are public meetings are free and all are welcome.

The November Prosperity Forum, “Making Cents of Business Loans, Grants & other Incentives,” is planned for Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 6 p.m. Tentative location is the Ponderosa Room at Libby City Hall.  

Liaison meetings

to be held this month

The public is invited to attend Liaison Team meetings during Octoberbetween Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks and landowners for the KootenaiValleys, Swan Valley, and Thompson and Fisher River conservationeasements. Combined easement acreage is approximately 186,500 acres.

Kootenai Valleys: The meeting for the Kootenai Valleys conservation easement (28,000 acres) near Troy is scheduled for 1 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Oct. 7 in the Ponderosa Room at Libby City Hall, 952 E. Spruce Street.

Thompson and Fisher River: The meeting for the Thompson and Fisher River conservation easement (142,000 acres) west of Kalispell is scheduled for 10 a.m.- noon Oct. 8,  at the FWP Region One Headquarters at 490 North Meridian Road in Kalispell.

Swan Valley: The meeting for the Swan Valley conservation easement north of Condon (16,500 acres) is scheduled for 10 a.m. – noon, Oct. 9 at the FWP Region One Headquarters at 490 North Meridian Road, Kalispell.

Liaison Team meetings are required annually by the conservation easement. Please address questions or requests for additional information to Chris Hammond at chammond@mt.gov or 751-4582.

driver safety class

The American Association of Retired Persons will host a drivers safety class at the Libby Christian Church, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call 283-7000 for a reservation.

Voice opinion on

local healthcare

Community members in Libby, Troy and the Yaak may soon be receiving a survey in their mailbox.  This survey will help Cabinet Peaks Medical Center identify health services needed in the community, and will be sent to a random sampling of homes this month. The information gathered will be used to help the medical center with strategic planning, grant applications, the development of new programs, and will also be shared with other community groups interested in addressing health issues.

Veterans Affairs Montana Health Care System is holding a statewide Flu Clinic Sept. 30 for enrolled veterans, VA Montana employees and VA Montana Health Care System Volunteers.  

VA nursing staff will administer influenza vaccinations free of charge at Fort Harrison from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., drive through style. Statewide, eligible people can receive a vaccination at Community Based Outpatient Clinics, also known as CBOCs, during regular clinic hours on a walk-in basis.

Review the state

water plan Oct. 9

After dozens of public meetings, hundreds of submitted comments, and input from the most diverse group of water users and stakeholders ever assembled to address water resource issues, the draft 2015 Montana State Water Plan is available for review - and the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC) is seeking public comment on the document. The Montana State Water Plan provides guidance for the conservation and management of water resources in Montana for the next 20 years.

A review meeting will be held 7 p.m.-9 p.m. Oct. 9 in Libby in the Ponderosa Room.
