Thelma Larsen, 74, of Libby

Beloved wife and mother, Thelma Jean Larsen, 74, of Libby, left this world peacefully at home surrounded by family on Friday, Sept. 19, 2014.

Thelma was born Aug. 3, 1940, in Wolf Point, to George and Christina Hartry.  She spent the early years of her life in Culbertson, moving to Glasgow, along with brothers Morris, Floyd, Jim and Jack. In her teens, Thelma drove stock cars competitively, and she took first place in the powder puff division at the age of 16.

Thelma met Leslie M. Larsen in 1954 and was married Dec. 30, 1957. They resided in Hinsdale and Glasgow until they moved to Libby in December of 1965.

After moving to Libby, Thelma worked at Henry’s Restaurant and then at Rosauers in the bakery department. Her hobbies included sewing, knitting, crocheting and, recently, watching Animal Planet and taking scenic drives with her loving hubby.

Thelma is survived by her husband Les Larsen; children Dean of Libby, Bev (Randy) Cummings of Libby; Missy (Myron) Bursell of Fairfield, Calif.; and Cara (Jason) Heald of Missoula; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and dear friends Walt and Valerie Sweet.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; and daughter Jackie DeLeo.

The celebration of Thelma’s life will take place at 11 a.m. Sept. 25 at Libby Assembly of God Church, with interment to follow at the City of Libby Cemetery.

Gathering of friends and family will immediately follow at Wilkinson Hall located next to the church on Collins Ave.

Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sept. 24 at the Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home in Libby.
