Cast an educated vote this fall
(Editor’s Note: The author of this letter is part of the Bill Clark for Sheriff campaign.)
I was impressed with the good nature of the reporting and campaigning during the primary elections.
However, I was disappointed in a recent article that The Western News published about Bill Clark. I was present for both interview sessions. The article was not representative of the conversation between the reporter and the candidate.
The Tobacco Valley News just did the same thing.
There is a stunning letter of recommendation from one of his former bosses from Newport, Wash., on his website.
Campaign reporting should be about the “truth.” If anyone believes that a person that is receiving disability benefits cannot be a valued employee, then they can take that up with the Americans with Disabilities Act and the hundreds of thousands of U.S. military veterans who are also disabled.
Being disabled does not render you unworthy of being employed. There is no difference, in this situation than saying to a veteran who lost his/her leg in the war, that he/she couldn’t be the leader of a department because they get disability benefits from the VA.
Look beyond the hype and educate yourself on all of the candidates. I am hopeful that all of the candidates will make themselves available to the public for questions and answers, as well as general information.
If we have questions or concerns about any of the candidates, we need contact them directly. It would be great if the newspapers would print their contact information.
I am not asking you to share my views or to vote the way that I vote. I am asking that you educate yourself on all of the candidates and cast the vote that you think is best for Lincoln County.
