Libby volleyball places third at tourney

Libby took third in the Western A Tip Off volleyball tournament Saturday at Frenchtown.

The Lady Loggers beat Anaconda 25-19, 25-18 in the match. Corvallis defeated Frenchtown 25-22, 25-16 to win the tournament. Columbia Falls was fifth and Whitefish finished seventh.

Coach Cindy Ostrem-Johnston said she is proud of her team’s performance.

"They served and passed very consistently, played some great defense and were aggressive on offense," she said.

Libby had a strong showing also Friday during the opening of the tournament during pool play. The Loggers took second in pool play, going 9-3.

Libby finished the tournament with 73 total aces. Hailey Craig and Hannah England lead the team in aces. Hailley Moe earned 41 kills during the tourney.

Block leaders were Hailley Moe, Staci Regh and Devon Gallagher. Mahalah Wedel lead the team in digs.

Ostrem-Johnston said the team showed true desire and grit during the tournament.

"We plan to build on this experience and the success we had, and keep working hard to get better throughout the season," she said.

Libby takes on the Wildkats in Columbia Falls Thursday.

Placing Matches

First place – Corvallis def. Frenchtown, 25-22, 25-16.

Third place – Libby def. Anaconda, 25-19, 25-18.

Fifth place – Columbia Falls def. Hamilton, 25-15, 20-25, 15-11.

Seventh place – Whitefish def. Stevensville, 25-9, 25-14.

Ninth place – Polson def. Dillon, 25-19, 25-20.

11th place – Butte Central def. Frenchtown JV, 26-24, 23-25, 15-4.
