Zinke is right choice for Montana

| October 14, 2014 11:22 AM

I recently read an editorial from an individual in Bozeman criticizing Ryan Zinke’s recommendation of imposing a “no-fly” zone between Iraq and Syria. As a recently retired Navy captain, I was taken aback by the comments.

What the individual fails to understand is that a no-fly zone accomplishes much more than just denying flight in a specific area.

Some of the benefits may include: Logistics support necessary for sustained air operations, control of the designated border area from the surface to the highest flight levels, enabling increased surveillance capabilities to identifying who, what and where the enemy is, and the air power to interdict and destroy the enemy both in the air and if deemed necessary on the ground.

Zinke’s ability to grasp both the political and strategic concepts of foreign policy in this situation demonstrate to me that Zinke is ready for the complex challenges that will face our nation in the future. Washington needs more leadership and less politics.

Zinke is the right choice for Montana and the nation.
