Libby soccer rolls into playoffs

The Libby Loggers (5-3, 6-6) ended the regular season on a roll Saturday, downing the visiting Polson Pirates, 4-0.

Transfer student Walter Briones scored two goals and assisted on the other two. The game was Briones’ second consecutive four-point performance.

The Loggers dominated the game, recording 10 shots on target while Polson (1-4-3, 1-8-3.) put only two shots on frame.

The win secured Libby third-place in the Northern A conference. The Loggers travel Saturday to Corvallis for an 11 a.m. kickoff. The Blue Devils (8-0, 11-1) open the playoffs as the top team in the Southern A conference.

At Libby, the Loggers downed Bigfork, 5-0.

Libby scored four times in the first half, including a pair of goals from Briones. Zander Petersen saved five shots for Libby.

Polson 3, Libby 0

The Lady Loggers fell Saturday to Polson (5-3, 8-4-1).

Libby keeper Shannon Reny saved 13 shots and kept her team tied at half, but Brenna Clarke’s 58th minute goal put Polson ahead for good.

Libby ended their season with a 0-7-2, 1-11-2 record.

Bigfork 4, Libby 0

At Libby, Bigfork (2-4-2, 5-5-2) did their work early against the Lady Loggers. Bigfork scored four goals in the first 30  minutes and sailed to victory Thursday.
