After a quiet week for high school athletes, the kids return to the playing fields en masse this weekend. Here’s a look at what is ahead for Libby and Troy teams.

Libby volleyball

The Lady Loggers (2-2, 5-2) travel to Missoula for a two-day tournament of 16 schools. With many AA schools in attendance, the event serves as a measuring stick. This may be the final year Libby, a two-time tournament champion, attends the tournament due to plans for the school to transfer to Class B sports.

Troy volleyball

The Lady Trojans host Plains at 1 p.m. Saturday. The game will be the team’s second homecoming match after Thursday’s home contest against Ronan.

Libby football

It is Senior Night in Libby when the Loggers (0-1, 2-4) host Polson at 7 p.m. Friday. The Loggers will look to bounce back after a 60-0 shellacking at the hands of Frenchtown in last week’s homecoming game. Coach Neil Fuller promised his team would put on a better display in their final home game of the season. Senior Dylon Lane will get his first start at quarterback.

Troy football

The Trojans (1-1, 2-3) host Eureka for Troy’s homecoming game at 7 p.m. Friday. The Trojans will look for junior running back Sean Opland to bounce back after illness limited him to 114 rushing yards. The best prep athlete in Lincoln County could have a huge day against the Lions’ run defense.

Libby cross country

The running Loggers travel Saturday to Whitefish for a meet. The event is the team’s last before the Oct. 18  divisional tournament in Columbia Falls.

Libby soccer

The Libby Loggers soccer teams are almost finished. Libby hosts Polson Saturday. The boys kick off at noon and the girls kick off at 2 p.m. This is the teams’ last game of the regular season.
