Larry Morkeberg, 72, of Troy
Lawrence “Larry” R. Morkeberg, 72, passed away peacefully at his home in Troy, Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014, from natural causes.
He was born March 6, 1943, in Moravia, Idaho, to Raymond and Sarah (Cook) Morkeberg. Larry moved to Troy with his parents in 1948. He attended the Troy schools and graduated from Troy High School with the class of 1962. Larry joined the U.S. Army in 1963 and served in South Korea with the 504th Signal Battalion as a Sergeant E-5, radio repairman.
Larry met his wife Bok “Sally,” and they were married in Seoul, Korea, on Nov. 17, 1964. After being honorably discharged from the Army in 1969, Larry returned home and re-joined his family in Troy. Larry went to work for the J. Neils Lumber Company, which later became the St. Regis Paper Company. In later years, Larry worked for the ASARCO mine and the City of Troy. While working for the City of Troy, he was active in building Roosevelt Park and, for a time, served as the animal control officer.
Larry retired in 2007. After his retirement, he enjoyed every moment with his family and friends. He really enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with his best buddy, Ron Hamel.
Survivors include his wife of over 50 years Bok “Sally” Morkeberg of Troy; children Hans (Deb) Morkeberg of Troy, Sarah Morkeberg of Troy, and Jacob (Vicki) Morkeberg of Grand Rapids, Mich.; 17 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, 2014, at the Door of Hope Church in Troy. Interment will follow at the Milnor Lake Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home of Libby. Online condolences and memories may be shared by visiting www.schnackenbergfh.com.
