The International String Trio will perform at the Memorial Center in Libby tonight.

The event will mark the first performance of the Kootenai Heritage Council’s 2014-2015 season. The next performance in Libby will be the Two Bit Franks on Nov. 20.

The International String Trio includes Russian-born guitarist and arranger Slava Tolstoy, Japanese upright bassist Ippei Ichimaru and Czech violinist Jakub Trasak. The group is scheduled to perform in seven states this year.

“The trio spans jazz, world, and classical sounds with an easy-going finesse that gives even simple pop melodies great depth and lyricism,” according to a press release about the group’s tour. “The trio has quickly won over audiences with its tight, energetic interpretations of everything from favorite folk melodies to Django Reinhardt numbers to classical string pieces by revered composers.”

The group takes its audiences on an exciting trip through cultures and continents all in one energetic show – from Appalacian folk to Gypsy jazz, and from tangos to Irish jigs.

The performance at Libby’s Memorial Center will begin at 7 p.m.
