Norma Jean Larson passed away peacefully on Oct. 25, 2014, after a 15-month battle with cancer.

Norma was born in 1934 to William and Agnes Hafferman in Kalispell. She grew up in Libby and was valedictorian of the Libby High School class of 1952. Norma attended the University of Montana where she met her husband, Steven Roy Sanders.

They married in Libby in August of 1955 and traveled the world together, as Steven was a fighter pilot in the U.S. Air Force. They had three children: Julie, Douglas and Don. Steven was killed in action in 1969 in the Vietnam War. Norma went immediately to work for the Libby Public School system.

Following her love for flying, they moved to Mesa, Ariz., to manage the flight school there. Soon after, she moved back to her hometown of Libby to take over ownership of the Meadowlark Motel and Trailer Court from her parents. Norma eventually ended up in Idaho, where she received her master’s degree in education. She met and married Larry Larson in 2006.

Norma was preceded in death by her husband Steven; grandson Steven; her parents William and Agnes; brother Billy Hafferman; her granddaughter Ashley; and husband Larry.

Norma is survived by her children Julie (Paige) of Twin Falls, Idaho, Douglas (Diana) of Fort Worth, Texas, Don (Marie) of Bothell, Wash.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
