Despite what you have heard, we do have a working sheriff
Letter to the Editor,
I will admit right up front, I am friends with Sheriff Roby Bowe and Undersheriff Brent Faulkner. I am writing because I want to correct a fallacy I keep hearing, which is Roby Bowe is an absent sheriff who is “always off in the Bob.”
If you believe this, you must not be paying attention.
I’ve seen Roby and Brent put in well over 60 hours in a week. If we paid either of these men the hours they actually worked, we would be broke.
Our families have tried to get together when Roby and/or Brent thought it would be an early evening (as in home by 6:30 p.m.-7 p.m.) and at 8:30 p.m., they hadn’t arrived. They were still working, going on almost 13 hours that day only to repeat the same hours for the next several days.
They don’t believe in counting hours, they believe in finishing the job. Does Roby go to the Bob? Yes. He uses his vacation time to go. If your job gives you vacation, should it dictate how you spend your vacation?
While on vacation, Roby is really running a small business that employs local folks. We desperately need jobs. Do you use your vacation to give someone else a job? If you hear this fallacy, please inform the individual this is not true.
If you are going to vote, be informed. Roby and Brent have done a tremendous job and continue to grow the relationship in a positive way between the community and the sheriff’s department.
Take “Shop with a Cop” program, what a great idea.
So if you want a sheriff who really knows and understands this community, don’t go off hearsay, do your homework and you find Roby Bowe really is a great sheriff and just who we need to keep.
