Strong turnout for Libby track and field

The Libby Logger track team opened practice last week with 50 kids looking to run, jump and throw.
“It’s organized chaos out there,” Libby Coach Jim May said. “We’re finding events for the kids. There are a lot of kids new to the sport, which is pretty cool. The coaches have been pleased with the early efforts.”
Strong in sophomore and junior turnout, the Loggers are full of potential. May described his team as a strong mix of athletes with a wide array of experience.
“Our goal is to send more kids to state,” May said. “Those kids need to perform better as individuals to get there. It’s both a team and individual sport. Every kid can work to improve personal marks.”
In anticipation of their opening April 5 meet in Eureka, coaches are discovering kids’ unique strengths. Libby will host two meets this season, beginning April 26 for the all-day Libby Invitational.
“Helpers are welcome,” May said. “Anyone looking to assist can contact the high school. Or if you just want to come out and watch and enjoy the weather, we’d love to see people out there.”
