James Kohler, Sr., 79, of Libby

James R. Kohler, Sr., 79, of Libby, died Sunday March 23, 2014, at Cabinet Peaks Medical Center in Libby.  

He was born March 10, 1935, in Albany, N.Y., to Edward and Anna (Holcomb) Kohler.  

Jim served in the U.S. Army. He was a Korean War veteran who had received the National Defense Medal and the Korean Defense Medal. Jim spent four years in the Army Reserve with the 15th Infantry and another four years active Army with the 3rd Infantry.

After Jim’s honorable discharge he served another four years with the U.S. Coast Guard in Oswego, N.Y.  Jim then went to work for W.H. Morton Co. as a heavy-equipment operator where he worked for 20 years. Jim also worked as a firefighter.  

Jim married Donna Combs on March 7, 1987,  in Richmond, Va. Jim and Donna made their way to Libby on Sept. 1, 2012.  

Survivors include his wife, Donna of Libby; six sons, James, WM, Edward, Robert, Adam and David; two daughters, Cynthia and Errinn; 25 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 28, 2014, at the City of Libby Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday.

Local arrangements are under the care of Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home in Libby.
