Saturday is the deadline to apply for elk hunting permits

| March 14, 2014 1:50 PM

This Saturday, March 15, is the deadline to apply for Montana’s 2014 deer and elk hunting permits.

An updated eight-page application packet is now available online at fwp.mt.gov.

Paper applications are available from most hunting license providers and Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks offices.

Some hunting districts and five-digit hunting codes have changed. Applicants should not rely on last year’s regulations or codes and must be sure to double check the codes for the permit they seek before submitting  applications.

Hunters who later this year apply for and receive a B license to hunt antlerless elk during all or any portion of the general or archery seasons in all of Region 1 and most of Region 2 may not take an antlered elk in the district for which the B license is valid. This restriction applies for the entire season.

All deer and elk regulations became final Feb. 13. The 2014 deer and elk regulations are now online at the Fish, Wildlife & Parks website.

Nonresidents who wish to apply for big game combination, elk combination or deer combination licenses and deer and elk permits for the 2014 fall Montana hunting season can also apply online.

May 1 is the deadline to apply for moose, bighorn sheep, bison and mountain goat licenses available through a drawing. Applications must be in by June 2 for antlerless deer B, elk B, antelope and antelope B licenses.
