Carolyn Maki, 69, of Libby

Carolyn Sue (Anderson) Maki passed away Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at Cabinet Peaks Medical Center in Libby.  

Carolyn was born Oct. 20, 1944, in Missoula to Maude (VanHouten) and Carl Anderson. Carolyn attended grade school in Missoula and graduated from high school at Mount Ellis Academy in Bozeman with the class of 1963.  

She then attended Walla Walla College in College Place, Wash. Carolyn became a nurse and practiced in Dillon where she met her husband, Kirby W. Maki. They married on April 1, 1967.

Carolyn and Kirby had three children, Shawn, Michelle and Kimberly. Carolyn and Kirby moved to Gardner  after their wedding in 1967, where they experienced the wonders of Yellowstone Park.  

In 1969, they were in Hamilton briefly to have their daughter, Michelle.  From there they moved to Priest River, Idaho. In 1978, they moved back to the Hamilton and Corvallis area where Kirby was teacher, coach, principal and superintendent in Corvallis. In 1998, they moved to Libby where they were residing at the time of her passing.

Carolyn was a lifelong member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. She was voted Ms. Congeniality in school and remained Ms. Congeniality throughout her life.  She always had a quick smile for anyone she met and could strike up a conversation with a complete stranger without hesitation.  

Carolyn was always willing to help anyone in need.  She loved Glacier National Park and visited there every chance she had. Carolyn also had a special love for her miniature Australian shepherd, Dozer.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her mother, Maude Strissel; her stepfather, Orien Strissel; her father, Carl Anderson; sisters, Lola Anderson, Hazel Rogers and Alice Berryman; and a brother, Sonny (Carl) Anderson.

Carolyn is survived by her husband, Kirby W. Maki of Libby; her son, Shawn Maki of Kalispell; her daughters, Michelle Maki of California, and Kimberly Maki of Libby; plus numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws, as well as many friends. Carolyn was loved by all who knew her, especially her family and her Dozer.

Service for Carolyn will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Libby.  Arrangements are under the care of Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home of Libby.
