Westin Remp stole the show.

At this weekend’s Millpond MotoX racing event, two riders propelled themselves to the front: Jason Potter, an American Motorcyclist Association pro rider, and Remp, a two-year-old boy riding his dirt bike with training wheels.

Remp cruised around the course and when it came to the hill portions of the course, volunteers would push him up. His head bobbed back and forth as his helmet was the heaviest part on his body.

Remp’s favorite part of his first race: “I don’t know,” he said. Remp was focused on getting his fruit snacks to refuel for the second race.

Potter on the other hand dominated the competition in the 450cc and 250cc pro events. Potter won both events, winning all four races in dominant fashion.

Potter, a 27-year-old from Spokane, Wash., said he expected to win.

“It is a nice little backyard track,” Potter said. “Jumps were really close together, but at this point in my career I am just riding for fun.”

The Millpond event featured 11 races, spanning classes from 50cc up to 450cc. Seventy riders from across the Northwest registered for the event.

Andy Remp, one of the event coordinators, said the turnout was better than it had been the last couple years.

“We tried to change the track more to the riders’ liking,” Andy Remp said.

Andy Remp said they had never had anyone of Potter’s status at the event in the past.

The first event of the day was the 250cc BC event. The BC events are for beginners. Brandon McCully of Columbia Falls ran away with this category, placing first in both races.

In the next event, the 50cc (0-6 year-old) Riley Havens of Kalispell placed first in both races. Westin Remp came in eighth place. Carson Orr, of Troy, and Sidney Clemons, of Libby, both competed in this category. Orr finished in second place and Clemons placed sixth.

In the veteran’s 30-plus division, Miles Chisholm, of Cranbook, B.C. finished in first place.

Libby’s Jay “The Rocket” Riddel placed second place in the 65cc category.

Kya Chisholm, Miles Chisholm’s daughter, was the lone female champion of the day, placing first in the 55cc (7-8 year olds) division. Libby’s Trent “The Hammer” Riddell, 5, finished in third place. Paislee MacDonald placed sixth.

In the 450cc junior division, Vincent Smart of Libby won the first heat, but placed second in the second heat, landing him in second place. McCully took first.

Cy Winslow, a 13-year-old Troy native, took third place in the 85cc race behind Trenton Smith of Kalispell.

There were crashes in multiple races, but no one was seriously injured.

Andy Remp said he wanted to thank all of the volunteers and sponsors that made this event possible.
