The Libby Lady Loggers softball team claimed third at the Class A state tournament. The Lady Loggers fell on the final day in Polson to state champion Frenchtown and eventual runner-up Belgrade.

Coach Dean Thompson said he was proud of his team for improving from a 10-11 record last year to a 20-7 mark this season.

Libby began the tournament Thursday with wins against Butte Central and Belgrade. Junior pitcher Hannah England threw a 16-strikeout no-hitter against Hamilton on Friday.

Libby fell 11-2 to Frenchtown to begin Saturday before securing third with a 4-2 defeat in a rematch with Belgrade.

A full recap of the weekend events will appear in the June 3 edition of The Western News.
