Benjamin Vaughn, 91

Benjamin Vaughn Sr., 91, a longtime Libby resident, died Sunday, July 20, 2014, at Libby Care Center.  He was born Oct. 3, 1922, at Helena to William and Katie Heppner Vaughn.  

Ben enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on Jan. 13, 1941, and served until being honorably discharged on Sept. 19, 1945. He was a member of the Elk’s Lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars and The American Legion. He was president of the Local Lumber & Sawmill Union and the State Lumber and Sawmill Worker’s Union, and past president of Senior Legacy Legislature. 

Ben enjoyed baking, golfing with his sons and planting his beautiful begonias. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved all sports and enjoyed sitting outdoors watching the big horn sheep and the eagles.  He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife Eleanor.

Survivors include his wife Marliese Vaughn of Libby; daughter Janice Vick and husband John of Tacoma, Wash.; sons Ben Vaughn, Jr. and wife Vicki of Aurora, Col.; Jerry Vaughn and wife Janice of Portland, Ore.; eight stepchildren, 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at the City of Libby Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home & Crematory in Libby.
