Kootenai Valley Quilters ready to show some color

A colourful display of quilts will be taking over the Fred Brown Pavilion on the Kootenai River at Quilt Fest this weekend.
Kootenai Valley Quilters guild president Mabel Edington said after a successful showcase last year, the 60-member guild was looking forward to showing the public what quilters had been working on this year.
“Last year there were big quilts, but it was difficult because of the wind,” Edington said. “This year the guild will have more lap-size or baby quilts. Last year was so much fun for the guild – we just filled that pavilion. It’s a pleasure for us to get out in this weather and show the public what we do.”
A great feature this year would be guild quilters coming out to do their quilting alongside the display, Edington said.
“There will be quilters out there all day – people can come right up to them and ask questions,” Edington said.
The most common statement quilters hear is “I’ve been thinking about doing it forever,” Edington said.
This year, Quilt Fest will also have the live country bluegrass festival For God and Country.
Quilt Fest will start at 10 a.m. and go until 3 p.m. The event is free to the public.
