Troy lighting to be voted on this week

Better lighting for one of Troy’s prime walking areas is being voted on at the Troy City Council meeting on Wednesday.

Troy Mayor Darren Coldwell said the town had already received $21,000 from an anonymous family trust to install 13 street lights along the St. Regis Haul Road, after a frequent walker in Troy pointed out how early the areas away from the main street became dark during the winter.

The council would need to match the donation with about $20,000, Coldwell said, and this would come out of the city’s $100,000 development fund.

The lights were black and decorative, with an old-fashioned curve on the top with LED bulbs, Coldwell said.

Troy City Council president Crystal Denton said she also thought the money would be well-invested and anticipated the project being improved.

“I would think it would go through,” Denton said. “It helps with beautifying Troy…I walk it quite a bit – it is an area that has been used as a loop (walk) around Troy for years.”

Coldwell said he hoped the lighting would be finished in time for winter.
