Lady Loggers start strong at home, stumble down the stretch, 58-15

The Lady Loggers (3-7) started as well as could be expected against the Class AA Glacier Wolfpack (6-3), leading the basketball game 7-6 with less than a minute remaining in the first quarter. But an upset was not in the cards and Libby lost at home Tuesday, 58-15.
The visiting Wolfpack overthrew an incredible number of passes in the first quarter. While many of the turnovers were unforced, the Lady Loggers’ strong-side overload zone defense clogged the lane and stymied the Wolfpack post players.
After a Devon Gallagher free throw that made it 14-10, Glacier went on a two-minute, 12-0 run in the middle of the second quarter. At halftime, the lead ballooned to 30-13.
Glacier lists 18 players on its varsity/junior varsity roster and the difference in depth played a significant role. Nine players scored a point for the Wolfpack while only three Libby players made a basket.
Shyla Stevenson and Devon Gallagher led the Lady Loggers in scoring with six points each.
“We came out with a lot of intensity and matched them blow for blow at the beginning of the game,” Libby Coach Jim May said. “We ran out of gas midway through the second quarter. Our offense got kind of stagnant and we need to continue to get deeper into our offense.”
The Lady Loggers host Thompson Falls at 6 p.m. Friday.
