RAC projects accepted until Jan. 22
If you have an idea for improving the Kootenai National Forest, the Lincoln County Resource Advisory Commitee wants to hear from you.
The Resource Advisory Committee (RAC) is seeking applications for projects that will enrich forest ecosystems or restore and improve land health and water quality on the Kootenai National Forest and other nearby lands in Lincoln County.
“Not only has the SRS funding provided much-needed funding for public land projects, the committee has provided a great vehicle for Lincoln County citizens to work together in collaboration finding common ground on diverse projects that address watershed restoration, forest health, community protection and recreation creating local jobs,” said RAC Chairperson Robyn King.
The committee will have more than $578,000 to spend on projects this year; made available to Lincoln County through the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act.
This is the sixth year of funding under the Act and the funds for approved projects will be implemented this year.
“Our strengthened partnership with county commissioners and community members is a highlight of our work under the Secure Rural Schools and Communities Act,” said KNF Forest Supervisor Paul Bradford. “The Resource Advisory Committees’ work reviewing and recommending Title II projects benefits forest health, recreation, and fish and wildlife habitat on the national forest in addition to enhancing local economies.”
Title II projects fund work such as restoring watersheds, decommissioning roads, and removing noxious and invasive weeds.
Proposal ideas should be directed to each district ranger in which the project resides — Rexford/Fortine Ranger District, Three Rivers Ranger District, and Libby Ranger District.
The deadline for project submission is Jan. 22.
The RAC will begin reviewing projects for possible funding during their meeting at 6 p.m. Jan. 30, at the Forest Supervisor’s Office in Libby.
