Persons undergoing surgery at Cabinet Peaks Medical Center now have the ability to have free pre-surgery consultations with with licensed physical therapists.

“The purpose of this new service is to help improve patient satisfaction and patient outcomes with their orthopedic surgeries,” said Karen Alexander, rehabilitative services manager at Cabinet Peaks Medical Center. “A consult with a physical therapist should help patients get a better idea of what to expect with the initial phases of recovery post-operation.”

There is a benefit to these consultations, said Els O’Rourke, physical therapist.

“Patients who are prepared for surgery and know what to expect tend to have better outcomes.”

At the consultation appointment, a physical therapist will go over post-operative exercises, ice protocols, positioning, use of assistive devices and will also help answer the patient’s questions about what to expect.

To take advantage of this new service, patients should consult with their surgeon for additional information or contact the Cabinet Peaks Medical Center Rehabilitative Services offices at 283-7280 or Troy at 295-4154, to schedule an appointment with a licensed physical therapist.
