Margaret Clawson, 93, of Libby
Margaret Jewell Clawson, 93, passed away Feb. 10, 2014, surrounded by family at Libby Care Care. She had been ill for an extended time.
She was born July 11, 1920, in Sheridan, Wyo., Margaret Jewell Whaples.
As a young woman, Margo, as she was fondly called, worked in a general store in Sheridan and later as a ranch cook near Lodge Grass where she met her husband, Robert, and they were later married in Big Timber.
After marriage, she worked as a dispatcher for the local REA in Lodge Grass, where Robert worked as a lineman. She later moved with her husband and family to settle and live in Libby in 1964 where they spent the remainder of their lives.
She is survived by her seven children, Robert Clawson, Jr., of Whitefish, Kay Lewis of Spokane, Wash., Donna Zinn of Missoula, Linda Clawson Sprinkle of Sandpoint, Idaho, Jack Clawson of Duvall, Wash., Debbie Messick and Darcy May, both from Libby; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She had a wonderful life filled with love, laughter, and many friends and created lasting memories for her children.
Margo was always known for her exceptional cooking, canning and jelly-making as well as the smell of her fresh homemade bread emanating from her kitchen. She was an accomplished seamstress, artist, and loved poetry and music.
She was a mother to not only her own children, but to all the neighborhood children who came into her life.
The family of Margo Clawson thanks the nursing staff and physicians at St. John’s Lutheran Hospital and the entire care team at the Libby Care Center, thelifelong family friends and neighbors, the Neils family, as well as the individual in-home caregivers who so helped to support her quality of life.
A memorial service will be held in the spring to celebrate her life.
