Kalispell man killed in Libby during holiday weekend

The holidays took a deadly turn in Libby as a local woman shot her son-in-law in the chest with a .22 caliber handgun, according to a press statement from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

Michael Leonard Roloff, 31, of Kalispell was shot and killed at a home on Glendora Avenue in Libby on Dec. 26.

Lincoln County Sheriff’s Dispatch received a 911 call at 10:17 p.m. from Roloff’s mother-in-law, Louis Kay Olbekson, who reported shooting Roloff in the chest following threats made against her.

Deputies arrived on-scene approximately three minutes after the call, according to the press statement,  issued by Lincoln County Sheriff Roby Bowe. Deputies secured the scene and initiated resuscitation efforts. Roloff was pronounced dead at Cabinet Peaks Medical Center at 10:58 p.m.

Sheriff Bowe and county attorney Bernie Cassidy joined investigators on the incident scene and at the hospital.

No charges have been filed and no arrests have been made in the case as of Monday, Dec. 29. Sheriff Bowe declined to comment until such time as the investigation is completed.
