Greenchain wrestlers downed by Polson, Columbia Falls

It’s the most grueling two minutes in high school sports. Just watching is exhausting.  It’s a period of wrestling.  

Columbia Falls got the best of Greenchain wrestlers at home Thursday night 51-18.

The Greenchains’ victories all came by way of pin.

Wrestling at 182 pounds, Gharet Chapel made short work of his opponent Miguel Garate by pin 48 seconds into the first round.

Michael Miller, 170, also put a quick end to his match against Dale Meyer by pin at 1:36 of the first round.

In a dominant performance against Wyatt Green, Zach Crace, 160, pinned his opponent with 14 seconds left in the second quarter.

“You can relax a little when Chapel and Crace get on the mat,” said Greenchain coach Kelly Morford.

But overall Morford was a little disappointed in the team’s performance. “They wrestled with more effort than us tonight. We need to take what we learn in the wrestling room to our matches instead of reverting to old habits,” said Morford.

Earlier this week, Greenchain wrestlers squared off against the Pirates in Polson. With five matches decided by forfeit, the action was lighter than usual. Polson was triumphant in the dual on Tuesday, outscoring the Greenchain 46-24.   

Three of the forfeits benefitted Polson, giving them 18 points.

Wrestling at 138, Dylan Roby won by fall in his match against Skylar Knutson. Also victorious for the Greenchain was Alex Yeadon, 160, by way of pin over Noah Humphrey.

Gharet Chapel and Zach Crace won by forfeit.

The Greenchain heads to Coeur d’ Alene to compete in the Tri-State tournament this weekend.
