Libby Greenchain wrestling finished in sixth place at the Havre Invitational over the weekend, with two wrestlers placing in individual competition.

Defending state champion Garret Chapel fell in the final 170-pound match, pinned by Havre’s Jase Stokes at 2:16. Stokes, who Chapel had defeated during the tournament’s preliminary rounds, was last year’s state champion at 152 pounds.

Libby’s Zach Crace placed fourth, falling 4-3 to Cut Banks’ Reid VandenBos in the 152-pound class.

Greenchain coach Kelly Morford was pleased with the overall performance. “It’s nice to get our there and wrestle, finally, after a couple of long weeks of practice,” he said. “We’ve got some younger guys that performed better than we expected. We just might be more competitive in our dual meets than we expected to be.”

Greenchain wrestling will be on the road today against Whitefish and then in Frenchtown for the weekend. Their first home dual will be on Dec. 18 against Columbia Falls.
