Arthur N. Skogas, 91, of Libby, passed away at the Libby Care Center on Nov. 19, 2014.

The youngest son of Lars and Tillie Hugaas Skogas, Art was born in Glendive on Jan. 25, 1923. He was raised on a farm with his nine siblings in Lindsey. They, along with his parents, preceded him in death.

He attended school in Glendive and graduated from Dawson County High School with the class of 1943. Shortly after graduation, he met and married Joy Murphy. They lived in Vancouver, Wash., where they worked in the shipyards during the war. They moved back to Glendive, where Art took a job as a mechanic at a repair shop. During that time, their two oldest daughters were born. They moved to Libby in 1950, where he resided until his death.

He was an early member of the Cabinet View Golf Club and helped with the development of Turner Mountain Ski Hill. Art owned and operated Art’s Repair Shop in Libby until his retirement, when he and Joy became snowbirds and spent their winters in Yuma, Ariz.

He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather who leaves behind his wife of 72 years, Joy Skogas; daughters Penny (Dave) Smith, Pam (Terry) Schultz, Peggy Smith, and Patti (Steve) Davidson. He had 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be scheduled at a later date. Arrangements are by Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home & Crematory in Libby.
