Libby golf at Whitefish

The Libby High School golf teams will play from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 20 at the Whitefish Lake Golf Course in Whitefish. The boys will tee at 1 p.m. and the girls will tee at 1:30 p.m.

Hole-in-one at Cabinet View club

Justin Graham got a hole-in-one on hole number 7 on Aug. 14. The hole-in-one was witnessed by Jake Graham, Jay Graham and Caitlyn Briggs.

American Red Cross drive at VFW

The next American Red Cross blood drive will be held between 11:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. at the VFW, 114 W. Second St. on Thursday, Aug. 21. To schedule an appointment, call Gloria Byrnes at 293-5233. Walk-ins are welcome.

Flathead warns of fraudulent calls

According to a press release, Flathead Electric is advising its members concerning reports from people who’ve received fraudulent phone calls from solicitors posing as Co-op employees.

According to the release, Flathead Electric asserts it is not company policy to ask personal questions of its members or to threaten members with immediate disconnect if there is a balance on their account.

Flathead warns that customers not release personal information and notify the Co-op immediately if a similar call in received. Local law enforcement agencies should also be advised. More information about identity theft can be found by visiting the Federal Trade Commission’s identity theft site at www.ftc.gov/idtheft.  

Nordicfest parade sign-up now open

Sign-up has opened for the Nordicfest Parade, Sept. 13, 2014. Those interested can go online to libbynordicfest.org for an application or call (406) 334-1156. The parade will start at 11 a.m. Those wanting to be in the parade should apply as soon as possible.

Nordic film fest joins Nordicfest

The Board of Libby Nordicfest is excited to announce the first annual free Scandinavian Film Festival.  

In cooperation with the Dome Theater a series of films produced in or about Scandinavian life, history and culture will be presented at no cost to the public on three consecutive Wednesday and Thursday evenings prior to Nordicfest.  

The films will range in interest from arts and action to culture and children.  The action category, for example, will include the 2007 release “Beowulf,” starring Anthony Hopkins and Angelina Jolie, and for nostalgic old timers the 1958 release “The Vikings,” starring Kirk Douglas, Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh.

The films will be shown on Aug. 27 and 28, and Sept. 3, 4, 10 and 11.  All showings will be at 7 p.m. In addition, there will be a showing of “The New Adventures of Pippi Longstocking” at 4 p.m. on Sept. 11 for children.

Foundation gives medical donation

The CPMC Foundation recently presented Cabinet Peaks Medical Center CEO Bruce Whitfield with a check for $100,000.  This money will help fund the new, and already installed, digital radiography machine in the imaging department, central sterile equipment in the surgery department and new emergency and way-finding signage throughout the medical center campus.
