Prescribed burns
The U.S. Forest Service will oversee prescribed burns in the Libby area this spring.
The prescribed burning could occur in the following areas: Alder Creek, Bristow Creek, Cow Creek, Dunn Creek, Gopher Hill, McGregor Lake Campground, Schafer Creek, Sheldon Flats and Warland Creek.
The majority of the prescribed burning this spring will occur in timber sale units and natural fuels ranging in size from a single harvest unit to landscape level wildlife burns. The district could burn up to 200 acres in timber sale units and 800 acres of wildlife burns if conditions are favorable.
Due to some of the prescribed burns close proximity to Libby some of these areas will be impacted by short-term smoke.
The Libby Ranger District uses prescribed burning as an important tool to accomplish forest management objectives such as hazardous fuel reduction, site preparation for reforestation, and improvement and creation of wildlife habitat and browse.
The prescribed burning will occur when air dispersion and weather conditions are favorable.
If you have any questions or would like to be contacted prior to any burning near you, please contact Tim Bumgarner at 293-7773.
