Logger kickers fall to Whitefish

The Libby Loggers boys’ soccer team fell to the Whitefish Bulldogs 8-1 last Friday. The game was Libby’s season opener.

Whitefish, the two-time defending state champions, return six starters from last year’s roster. The final score line belies several close opportunities for the Loggers.

Unlike last season, the Loggers got on the board against the Bulldogs when Jonathan Miller assisted on Jason Schnackenberg’s first- half goal. The score was 5-1 at half.

“It could have been a tie game at half,” Libby coach Charlie Webster said. “In total we had eight good shots that were all scoring chances.”

The Loggers employed an aggressive formation, leaving only three defenders on the backline. While the Loggers failed to convert most of their scoring opportunities, the eight shots on goal were an improvement from one in each of the teams’ two matchups last year.

“I take the blame for most of the goals,” Webster said. “The coach gets to learn something from this game. The effort by all the defenders was outstanding.”
