Impressed with Yaak beauty, disappointed in trash

Letter to the Editor,

My husband, daughter and I camped in the Yaak Falls campground during the Labor Day weekend. We’ve camped there and at the Yaak River campground a couple of times in the last three or four years and love it because of the natural beauty and the swimming hole.

Whoever put the steps going down to the swimming hole, thank you. It saved my joints. And, hopefully, we will be coming back next year and the years to come even though it is a ways to drive.

That being said, I want to make a comment on all the trash I saw in the campground and down at the swimming hole. I noticed from all the license plates of the people who came out for the day to go swimming, that there were plenty of local people using the swimming area and some of you left trash.

Before we left, I went around with a grocery bag and picked up 1.5 bags of garbage and that didn’t include the garbage we created.

Now maybe someone comes around at the end of the camping season and picks up the garbage, but they shouldn’t have to do that.

It should be done on an as-you-are-there basis. And even if it’s not your garbage, pick it up anyway. It’s a beautiful area, keep it that way, otherwise, before too long, it won’t be there for you to use.
