Whitefish man killed by California cops
WHITEFISH — A 32-year-old Whitefish man was shot and killed last week during a confrontation with law enforcement officers in northern California.
Police in Weed, Calif., say the confrontation began when Steven Hughes Henning set a fire on a wooden porch at a bus stop Thursday.
Officers say Henning refused to put out the fire and violently resisted arrest despite being hit with a stun gun.
Police said the altercation continued, with an officer using pepper spray on Henning during a “violent struggle” after he jumped into a patrol car. Henning fled with the officer’s stun gun.
Officers found Henning later that night and say he again violently resisted arrest and tried to injure a police dog.
Both a Weed police officer and Siskiyou County deputy shot Henning. He died at the scene.
