Dorothy Landon, 86, of Libby

Dorothy M. (Smith) Landon, 86, passed away on? Oct. 10, 2013.

She was born in Mobile, Ala., to Hyer W. Smith and Maggie (Hopkins) Smith on Aug. 4, 1927. She was one of four daughters.

Dorothy married Meron (Shorty) Landon in 1944 and moved to Libby where she lived for 68 years.

Dorothy worked for many years at Libby Public Schools.

She and her husband owned and operated an independent logging business for 30 years before purchasing the Sears Catalog and Appliance Store in Libby. Upon selling the Sears store, the Landons purchased and operated MovieLand Video until Meron Landon’s death in 1997.

She was an active member of Libby’s local Eastern Star Chapter, joining in 1949. She was also a mother advisor for Rainbow Girls, a youth program operated under Eastern Star. 

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Hyer and Maggie; husband, Meron Landon; sisters, Margaret, Ilene and identical twin sister, Doris. She also was preceded in death by her special friend, Paul Evans.

Survivors include her children, John Landon and Diane Landon – Williamson, both of Spokane, Wash.; four grandchildren, Brandy (Glen) Tennison – Steiger of Sandpoint, Idaho; Courtney Landon of Morongo Valley, Calif., Brian Landon, of Salem, Ore., and Ben Williamson of Missoula;  four great-grandchildren, Kristen, Brooklen and Cody Steiger and Alexis Williamson.?

A special thanks to Dorothy’s day companion, Mary Stevenson (CNA) for her love and kindness.

Service will be officiated by a family friend, Jim Holder, at?11 a.m. Nov. 23, 2013,?at Faith Bible Church, 239 Education Way, in Libby. 

A luncheon will follow at Elks Lodge, 220 W. 4th Libby.

Memorials may be given to Shriners Hospital for Children in the name of Dorothy Landon, an organization she loved and supported for years.?Contributions may be sent to Shriners Hospital for Children, P.O. Box 2472, Spokane, Wash., 99210
