A fourth-generation Troy resident, Dallas Carr says he can bring honesty and thick skin to Troy City Council.
“I’m a straight shooter,” Carr said. “I don’t talk behind people’s backs. Just because we don’t agree doesn’t mean I don’t like you.”
An assistant coach on Troy High School’s football and girls’ fast-pitch softball teams, Carr preaches structure and respect. One of his ideas for improving Troy is picking the brains of its retired population.
“I’d like to ask what made them so successful,” Carr said. “If I have to be humble for a good idea I can do it. They have a lot of ideas.”
Carr suggests the establishment of campsites on city property to attract visitors. He’d like to invest some of that money into maintenance of Troy’s parks. He supports the development of Callahan Trail and believes Troy needs more amenities to get people to stop by.
“We want tourism but we have nowhere to stay,” Carr said. “In order for us to have industry we have to supply the comforts people like.”
Carr agrees when people compare local politics to the intransigence stifling Washington, D.C. He sees a solution in staying out of other people’s jobs.
“Too many people get out of their position and try to sway other people,” Carr said. “If you ain’t listening you need a hearing aid or you don’t give a hoot.”
Carr sees his town like a big zoo. There is wonderful wildlife and nature, but believes restrictions prevent people like him from utilizing the area’s resources.
“We need logging back,” Carr said.
He is willing to make compromises to take advantage of the forest’s ability to provide income.
More than anything, he wants people to know they can trust him.
“Voters can trust in the fact that I will try to do what they would like to see done,” Carr said.
