Troy beats Plains in 5
The Lady Trojans (2-3, 4-9) won a five-set thriller Saturday at home against Plains.
The teams exchanged the first four sets with Plains claiming the first and third and Troy the second and fourth. Troy then rallied to claim the decisive fifth set 15-11.
“The girls did a great job of moving beyond the points that got away,” Troy Head Coach Sandra Beal said. “The match was intense throughout.”
Kellie Lundin led Troy with nine kills. Her twin sister, Katie Lundin, tallied seven.
“The twins did a great job covering the net and allowing us to run our offense,” Beal said.
Taylor Brown and Katie Lundin each recorded five aces. Beal credited the pairs’ accurate service for allowing the team to establish their strategies.
“The girls communicated very well and it was refreshing to see us play hard for every point,” Beal said. “We played the next point instead of dwelling on the previous one.”
Megan Hight led with 14 digs and Kellie Lundin provided two blocks and, according to Beal, several more deflections that slowed the game for the back line.
The Lady Trojans host Stillwater at 4 p.m. Tuesday. The game is also the ladies’ Senior Night.
Troy will then travel to Eureka for another 4 p.m. affair.
