Libby Superintendent Maki to resign June 30

In a surprise move during Monday night’s board meeting, Libby Schools Superintendent K.W. Maki announced his intention to resign at the end of the current school year, June 30.

In a plain, four-paragraph letter, Maki had Business Manager Leslie Forster present his letter on the overhead projector.

Maki, 68, prefaced the revelation by announcing a resignation, by saying ”the financial future of the district is positive.”

District Principals Ron Goodman and Ruth VanWorth-Rogers sitting behind the media looked at each other with Goodman realizing it was neither of them, so it had to be Maki.

“No. I didn’t know a thing about it,” Goodman confessed.

Maki has been the Libby Schools superintendent for 16 years, saying at one time he thoughtt about staying 21 years to match Asa Wood, but confessed the time is now right to retire.

“I’ve been with my wife for 46 years. It’s time to spend some (family) time,” he said.
