Their regular season a wrap, the Lady Trojans are focusing on maintaining the communication and positivity that carried them to third place in their district.

“Our seniors, Katie (Lundin), Kellie (Lundin) and Megan (Hight) have been great leaders,” Head Coach Sandra Beal said. “They have helped us overcome the challenges of the season.”

Adversity visited the Lady Trojans (3-5, 5-12) Monday when they lost three players for breeching the team contract. The team now carries eight girls, including one player recently called up from junior varsity.

“Starting the season I thought we were pretty green, and I just wanted to see consistent effort and improvement,” Beal said. “Looking at how the year went I feel we did very well. We play three freshmen and a junior who had never played before.”

Troy will play against Thompson Falls in the first round of their district tournament at noon Saturday in Plains.

“Thompson Falls beat us in four sets last time we played them,” Beal said. “There were some positives to take from that game and we are practicing those this week.”

Beal lauded her team for its coachability and desire to improve during the year.

“We have avoided getting down about lost points,” Beal said. “This team constantly looks to push the envelope.”

Troy’s play at the district tournament will determine their seeding for the divisional tournament in Florence, which takes place Thursday.

“I think placing well in the district tournament is definitely achieveable,” Beal said. “I expect us to play upbeat.”
