Libby Police Chief Jim Smith reminds residents that city ordinance prohibits parking on city streets between 2:30 a.m. and noon on days when there is freshly fallen snow.

The ordinance begins today, Nov. 1, through April 30.

Smith said parking is prohibited in the downtown area from 2:30 a.m. to 6 a.m. The downtown area includes the blocks from Louisiana to Idaho avenues and from 1st to 10th streets.

Smith said parking restrictions for other city streets running north to south will be from 4 a.m. to 8 a.m. Furthermore, the east to west streets will be plowed from 8 a.m. to noon.

Vehicles parked on the street during these times are subject to being towed, with the owners paying the towing bill before the vehicle can be recovered.

“You might just as well tell people they should not park on the (city) streets from 2:30 a.m. until noon,” Smith said.

Smith said parking on city alleys is permitted as long as alleys are not blocked.

“It’s that time of the year,” Smith said. “We just want everyone to drive safely.”

In Troy, that city has not established guidelines for plowing. Motorists may park their vehicles along city streets with the knowledge an earlier-passing snow plow may have blocked them in.
