Raymond Warren Sampson, of Troy, went to be with his Lord the morning of April 21, 2013, at St. John’s Lutheran Hospital in Libby.

He was 90 years old.

He was born in Wolf Point, the son of Norwegian immigrants, Thea and Rasmus Sampson.

They eventually settled in Worley, Idaho, where he graduated high school. He began work as a crosscut sawyer for the Civilian Conservation Corps in Idaho, and assisted in the construction of Farragut Naval Station, where he later enlisted in the Navy.

He served his country for four years in World War II as an aviation radioman on a B-24 bomber crew stationed in Morocco.

After completing his tour of duty, he worked for the Seattle Fire Department for 26 years. Upon retirement, he moved to Troy in 1972 with his wife LuRee where he was involved in establishing the Bull Lake Fire Department, served on the initial ambulance crew, and worked at the Troy landfill for several years. He was a charter member of the Sons of Norway in Libby and involved with Troy Senior Citizens.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, four sisters, an infant son, two grandsons, and two sons-in-law.

His greatest joy was the family he leaves behind including his wife, LuRee; his siblings, Charles and Margaret; his children, Sharon, Janice, Nancy, Allen, Laura, Heidi and Lea; and their families, which include 13 grandchildren, 11 great- grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Please join us in celebrating his life at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at Three Lakes event center. Memorials may be made to Three Lakes Church, St. John’s Lutheran Hospital, or other charity of choice. Arrangements are by Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home in Libby.
