MISSOULA — A mobile food truck has arrived at the University of Montana to replace an aging dining facility during part of the day and then travel to another location on campus to serve hungry students there.

The Missoulian reports the “Galloping Griz” food truck arrived Tuesday and will start serving food April 8 when students return from spring break.

“The truck will have double duty, serving Missoula College (the vocational/technical school) during the day, then at night it will provide late-night service on the west side of campus,” said Mike Spencer, assistant director of residential dining.

Missoula College’s West Campus is home to the Department of Industrial Technology. It has an older dining facility officials say would cost about $250,000 to renovate. The food truck cost $169,000.

The truck will serve breakfast and lunch food, including hamburgers and chicken strips, plus daily hot meals.

From 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Monday through Friday, the truck will be just outside the existing West Campus kitchen.

At night, Spencer said, the truck will serve affordable food that can be prepared fast on UM’s campus. Spencer said the truck will park near residence halls and likely operate Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and weekends, starting about 8:30 p.m.

“We’re going to start at the Lommasson Center,” Spencer said. “We’re going to look at maybe moving it around on campus.”
